KERRICK SPORTS SEDANS CONFIRMS 2016 CALENDAR

The Kerrick Sports Sedan Series will continue its tenure with the Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals into 2016, announcing a five-round calendar for what will be its 12th year sponsored by Kerrick.

The 2016 season for the ‘gods of thunder’ will kick off at Sandown Raceway (April 1-3), before heading to Winton Motor Raceway for round two across June 10 to 12.

The tin top field will then head up to Queensland Raceway for round three (July 29-31), before heading back to Victoria for their penultimate round of the year – to be held at Phillip Island across September 9 to 11. The final round of the year will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park across November 11 to 13.

Kerrick Sports Sedan Series category manager Phil Crompton said it was an exciting time for the thunderous sedans.

“The Kerrick Sports Sedan Series is very pleased to be able to announce a five-round calendar with the Shannons Nationals for 2016, continuing the long relationship the category has with the national series while delivering rounds across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland,” said Crompton.

“We have been a part of the Shannons Nationals series since its inception in 2006, and we look forward to an exciting new era ahead for both of us as it moves into its eleventh year.

“We are also very excited to again have the support of Kerrick behind us for a 12thstraight year – their backing is invaluable to us and we are looking forward to putting on a great show for them in 2016.”

The State of Origin concept – allowing competitors to enter two rounds (one of which must be in their home state) for a reduced entry fee and compete for state of origin points – introduced in 2014 will also return.

“With the continued support of valued sponsors Kerrick, the category continues to be strong and we look forward to welcoming new competitors to both our national competition and the State of Origin class across the year,” said Crompton.

ABOUT THE KERRICK SPORTS SEDAN SERIES

In 2016, the Kerrick Sports Sedan Series will contest five national circuit racing events across four states:

  • Round One - Sandown Raceway, April 1-3
  • Round Two - Winton Raceway, June 10-12
  • Round Three - Queensland Raceway, July 29-31

SHERRIN RACING TAKES AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTION CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

SHERRIN RACING TAKES AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTION CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

The Sherrin Rentals Racing team has claimed a host of accolades at the final round of the 2015 Australian Manufacturers Championship *held at Sydney Motorsport Park at the weekend), including the prestigious Australian Production Car Championships.

Alongside the ‘big trophy’ – awarded to Grant Sherrin in the #18 Sherrin Rentals Racing BMW135i – the team also took home the Class B Australian Production Car Championship (Grant Sherrin), the Class B Australian Endurance Championship (Grant Sherrin), the Amchamps Teams Award (Grant and Iain Sherrin), and the Class B victory in today’s Australian 4 Hour race (Grant and Iain Sherrin) for a total trophy haul of 7 between the two drivers.

The victory did not come easy, with a big week of repairs following damage to the #18 at the Winton 300 last week, followed up with two seized turbo wastegates over Friday and Saturday, plus a host of gremlins related to the Winton damage. At the same time, the team was reeling from the fact that the #19 Sherrin Rentals Racing BMW135i suffered a weekend-ending crash during Friday practice with Michael Sherrin at the wheel – whilst the car was unable to be repaired at the track for the Australian 4 Hour, Michael Sherrin emerged relatively unscathed.

Come Sunday, the drama continued. Grant Sherrin started the race and ran at the pointy end early, and just laps in their nearest championship rival at the time – Beric Lynton – retired from the race with a rogue engine plug causing issues for that team.

Later he would hand over to Iain Sherrin and all appeared well, however, soon into his rein a bolt would snap on the suspension arm sending the #18 into the garage for repairs, dropping the entry down the order.

From there, it was a battle to get back to fifth spot – as their now nearest title rival Rick Bates was in second position and this was the lowest they could finish and still take the title if Bates was to cross the line in that same position.

With 20 minutes to go, Iain handed the car back to Grant in seventh position and two laps down from fifth, and the task seemed almost insurmountable.

However, as the old adage says, anything can happen, and only moments later it was revealed that the Bates Evo had been running with a compromised engine, with the car ‘over cooking’ at the 15 minute mark to be out of the race – leaving the Sherrins to finish the race and claim the outright title along with the Class B title, the teams title, the Class B AEC title, and the Class B victory for the race.

“It was just crazy,” said Iain Sherrin, who along with Grant and the rest of the team thanks their valued sponsors Tyres 4 U, Hi-Tec Oils, Sci-Fleet, Clark Equipment, Sherrin Rentals and Sherrin Equipment.

“It was up and downs and just nerve-wracking. For most of the year I have started the races and it was nerve-wracking not being in the car at the start, so I was really happy to get in the car and get going. I felt really good and the times were coming down, and then I had that problem and felt that sway bar arm break the bolt going through turn one - that was a bit of fun, it certainly caught my attention,” laughed Iain Sherrin.

“When I pulled into the garage and the boys started going to work on it, all the bad thoughts started going through my head, but I just said to myself I will go out there and drive it as hard as I can, and that is what I did and it worked out in the end.

“To not only win this, but to do it as a Class B car as well which we believe hasn’t been done before, is just fantastic. It is amazing and I can’t believe it. This is something we have been working towards for four years, and it is just unbelievable.”

For Grant Sherrin, the win is all about the team.

“After the week that this team has had, this feels really, really good,” said Grant Sherrin.

“It feels especially great as it is something that we have been working towards for a number of years, and it is just amazing. What the team has done today especially after the last few days and the last week is just fantastic.

“There were some big efforts there from key people, and especially Dave (Ayres), Jimmy (Flanagan – team engineer) and Michael (Sherrin); and in the pit stops the guys were unbelievable and they have been all year long, and Iain has done a fantastic job co-driving with me.

“At the end of the day, this is not my championship, it is everyone’s championship, and it is something we will always remember.”

Sherrin Racing will next be on-track at Bathurst’s Mount Panorama in February for the Bathurst 6 Hour, before returning to the Australian Manufacturers Championship and also the Wakefield 300, Queensland 300 and Winton 300 in 2016.

Sherrin Racing is proudly supported by valued sponsors Tyres 4 U, Hi-Tec Oils, Sci-Fleet, Clark Equipment, Sherrin Rentals and Sherrin Equipment. AUSTRALIAN SPORTS RACER SERIES READY TO RACE INTO 2016

The Australian Sports Racer Series has confirmed a five-round racing calendar for 2016, with all rounds to be held in conjunction with the Shannons Nationals.

The 2016 Series will kick off at Sandown Raceway (April 1-3), before continuing at Winton Raceway (June 10-12). July will see the racers head to Queensland (July 29-31) for their third round, before they travel back to Victoria for the penultimate round at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit across September 9-11. The final round of the year will then be held at Sydney Motorsport Park across November 11-13.

Following its introduction for the 2015 series, the SR2 (Division 2) championship will again be held as part of the Australian Sports Racer Series, which is expected to be enjoy a spike in numbers next season thanks to an import influx by West Race Cars Australia.

Australian Sports Racer Series category administrator Liam Curkpatrick said the future is looking bright for the series.

“We are very pleased to have another five-round series locked in for the Australian Sports Racer Series, and that those events will be run under the Shannons Nationals banner as they have successfully for the past two years,” said Curkpatrick.

“The racing displayed by our competitors has been very exciting across 2015 and as we head to our final round of 2015 this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park, the championship leaders are separated by just two points.

“In 2016, we expect to see more of the same, with even more competition thanks to increased grids thanks to an influx of cars being brought into the country by West Race Cars Australia.

“We can’t wait to be racing into 2016 with our competitors and our valued supporters – the future is certainly looking bright.”

ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN SPORTS RACER SERIES

The Australian Sports Racer Series is an exciting national motorsport series providing something different amongst Australia’s crowded motorsport landscape. Launched in 2010, the Series joined the popular Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals in 2014, successfully launching the Series onto the national stage.

With spiritual links to the hugely popular sports car racing scene of the 70s and 80s, these Le Mans prototype style sports cars offer scintillating performance, amazing dynamics and spectacularly close racing.

Designed to maximise aerodynamic performance while weighing just 400kgs, these racers are powered by high-tech production-based motorcycle engines which rev to 13,200 rpm. Capable of punching out lap times equal to the mighty V8 Supercars at many circuits around Australia, these rockets are sure to grab your attention, whether you are behind the wheel, or in the grandstand.

In 2015 the Australian Sports Racer Series employed a new championship structure, which will see the introduction of divisional racing for the category - allowing more of the field to compete for race day honours whilst also still being in the running for the ‘outright’ SR1 Championship.

All drivers will be seeded according to their performances at previous national rounds and/or their domestic meetings, while racers for individual events will be seeded on their merits. SR2 points will be awarded as per the 2015 Series Sporting Regulations, and SR2 drivers who qualify more than twice in the top three or finish a race more than twice in the top three during a season will be reclassified to be eligible only for the SR1 championship.

PERSONAL BESTS SEE FAST FEMME READY TO TACKLE EAST COAST NATIONALS

MEDIA RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 4 November 2015

PERSONAL BESTS SEE FAST FEMME READY TO TACKLE EAST COAST NATIONALS

Queensland fast femme Jodanna Pullen is feeling more confident than ever heading to this weekend’s East Coast Nationals at Sydney Dragway, after completing a testing period that has yielded record results.

Following the Fuchs Winternationals in June of this year, the Super Stock racer joined with five-time Pro Stock champions Tremaniac Racing to bring a new direction to her FemRPM team and her VZ Holden Monaro.

At the same time, she began a relationship with experienced crew chief Mark Walpole of Rob Tucker Racing fame - who recently toured with the RTR team during their 2014 NHRA drag racing season in America – as well as RTR crewman Danny D’Andily.

“We only formed these new partnerships at the end of June, yet when we hit the track for testing in July we straight away set a new personal best elapsed time of 7.35 seconds,” said Pullen.

“It was clear immediately that this new direction and the guidance of these experienced players was paying off, and since then, it has just gotten better.

“Since then, we have completed three further test days, with the car going faster each time. We are now running faster than the current speed record for my class (186.12mph) and close to the record for the elapsed time (7.332s) with a personal best of 7.353 seconds at 186.74 miles per hour.

“With the testing program now complete, I have never been so excited leading up to a racing meeting as I am now.”

Pullen is the only female currently racing in the Super Stock bracket, with it having been more many years since a woman took out victory in the class.

“The never give up attitude is what has gotten me here, and sees me ready now to sort all the men out in this elite class of sportsman racing!” said Pullen.

“So many times I have heard ‘you can’t’ or ‘you won’t’ or ‘you don’t know how’, but failure has never crossed my mind. All I needed was some guidance from the best in the business and to surround myself with successful people – I have done that and the results are already speaking for themselves.

“Now, the testing is over and it is time to take that next step of seeing what we can do at a national-level race meeting with this new package – I can’t wait!”

The East Coast Nationals will be held at Sydney Dragway across the 7th and 8th of November.  For more information on Jodanna Pullen and the FemRPM team go to orwww.facebook.com/FemRPMRacing
